Can you handle modifiers and other special E&M circumstances?
Yes, Butter can handle modifiers and special circumstances such as preventative visits, prolonged services, split / shared visits, incident-to, global surgical package, multiple E&Ms on the same day, and telehealth.
What if my company has its own coding guidelines?
When clients have coding policies or guidelines that differ from Butter's standard approach, Butter can create client-specific settings that are only available for that client. We will not share your policies or guidelines with other clients.
How does Butter’s AI work?
Butter uses large language models to review the medical record and then sends that information to Butter’s proprietary coding system, which assigns the correct diagnoses and procedures including E&M category and level based on either MDM or time, as applicable.
How is Butter better than currently available coding tools like CAC or NLP?
CAC tools are glorified dictionaries. You decide what to look up, then decide what information is relevant. NLP tools are better but far from sufficient. They are like chatbots before ChatGPT. They kind of worked, but not well. Butter uses Generative AI to answer questions that would have been out of reach for "AI" technologies like NLP.
How does Butter protect my clients’ sensitive, privacy-protected medical records?
Butter uses HIPAA compliant LLMs and cloud storage technology to ensure your clients’ protected health information is not shared with unauthorized entities.
Do I need a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) to work with Butter?
If using Butter Chef or Butter Clarity, your organization will need to sign a BAA so that we can process your clients’ protected health information. The sign up process includes a BAA to sign online.
